Beauty Sleep Starts with your Nightstand
The easiest way to get into a new routine is by setting up your environment to remind and support the habits you’re trying to form. I recently started valuing sleep (after 22 years, I know) and have been prioritizing getting an early start on winding down in the evening.
I’m the type who likes to continue working past 10pm and has a hard time shutting off a busy mind.
Consciously making an effort to set up a calming environment helps me remember to unwind rather than keep stimulation from technology flowing into my brain. Getting a proper nightstand surprisingly hacked my nighttime routine by giving me a place to put my sleep essentials - a reading book, blue light glasses, diffuser, and my silk scrunchie. Having all of my go-to’s within reach (and sight) has made keeping a healthy routine effortless!
1. Phone Dock
Have a place for your phone to rest. We don’t need to be on a device 24/7 and especially as you’re winding down, avoiding a constant feed of information is key. I love the Native Union Rose Gold iPhone Dock I found on Amazon for it’s sleek simplicity that blends into my nightstand decor.
2. A Good Read
Reading before bed is a habit that requires discipline vs. scrolling through Insta, but when I choose that route - I never regret it. I recently have been enjoying reading about wellness, business, or even psychology. My favorites at the moment are Eat Beautiful, The Perfect You, and How To Win Friends. If your brain feels overwhelmed by loads of facts, reach for a fiction series that can get you out of fast-paced thinking.
3. Blue Light Glasses
I can only vouch for Felix Grays, but blue light glasses are life changing! Even if you just need to switch on your phone to check your schedule for the next day and set an alarm, it’s so helpful to protect your eyes from stimulating light. These are especially helpful for nights when I want to edit a YouTube video or watch a show with my husband.
Essential oils have made it into my nighttime routine recently and I’m loving it! I adore this stoneware diffuser from Vitruvi and use their Dusk oil blend, made up of Ho Wood, Frankincense, Eucalyptus and Lavender. I keep a small pitcher in my bedroom to refill the water every night and add about 10 drops before I doze off! The scent really makes me chill out.
5. Silk Scrunchie
I’ve talked about my affinity for silk pillowcases before, but have yet to inform you loves on the silk scrunchie comeback. To avoid hair breakage, silk and satin are your bff’s. Every night after applying my face serums and oils, I love to pull back my hair with a silk scrunchie to keep it from getting in my skincare products.
