Fresh Fall Skincare to Keep your Glow

Skincare is sometimes presented as superficial, but I believe it’s worth investing energy in. Did you know it is the largest organ of your body? As the leaves drop and we move into cooler months, our skin tends to tighten, break, and flake. No worries though - switching up your beauty routine with products that hydrate and soothe your face will take care of all the harsh effects cold weather can have on skin.

1. Hydrate from the inside out.

In chilly temps, it’s easy to forget to hydrate. Drink 8-10 glasses of water a day to avoid dehydrated skin. I love having a few cups of tea on cold days to help with drinking fluids. I’ve been trying this spiced detox tea recently and find that it aids with clearing up your skin!

2. Apply a soothing serum before your moisturizer.

I have experimented with several serums in the past year and would highly recommend adding a hyaluronic acid or vitamin C serum to your skincare routine. Both types have shown incredible improvements in my skin - radiance, smoothness, even tone, and elasticity. Apply either serum after washing your face and allow it to absorb for 5 minutes before finishing with a moisturizing cream.

3. Exfoliate with gentle acids.

If you have sensitive skin, you might want to avoid physical exfoliants and opt for chemical exfoliants. The Ordinary has two amazing options for chemical exfoliators - an AHA + BHA peeling solution and a glycolic acid toning solution. I use the peeling mask twice a week by applying the solution to my clean face and washing it off after 10 minutes. The toner is part of my daily pm routine; I simply dab it on a cotton pad and gently swipe upwards all over my face after washing.

4. Chill out with a sheet mask twice a week.

Dr. Jart+ sheet masks are miracle workers for the skin in cold weather. Use them twice a week on days when your skin needs a beauty boost.

5. Swap your moisturizer for an overnight mask.

For acne prone skin, many night creams are too heavy and end up clogging your pores. I’ve been using this watermelon glow sleep mask every night for the past year and love it’s lightweight consistency and the supple hydration it gives my skin while I sleep.
