Refeshing Your Closet For Spring
This weekend the temps hit almost 70°F and my hopes were lifted knowing spring is finally here! Sweaters and booties are exciting to me until the post-Christmas drop off when winter drags on forever. I turn to survival mode, where warmth in chilly Pennsylvania is prioritized over a creatively curated outfit.
Spring sun and blooming flowers are inspiring me to try pretty pastels, feminine ruffles, semi-sheer pieces, and spunky patterns (loving starry prints lately!) With a little intention and small adjustments, you can slowly make your winter outfits wearable for springtime.
1. Transition to a softer palette.
It’s a frequent occasion to find me in all black during the winter months. Once spring hits, I bring out tons of soft neutrals - beige, blush, sand, and light grey. This season, pale yellow is trending and I’m a fan.
2. Incorporate breezy and beachy fabrics.
Linen, chiffon, silk… these fluid textiles move with the wind, and not only look fresh but keep you cool as well. Think of the types of pieces you would wear on the beach and start bringing them into your outfits.
3. Find lighter ways to layer.
Put your wool coat in storage and invest in a classic long trench for spring outerwear. Instead of layering with chunky cardigans, try thin cardis or flowy kimonos. The trendy teddy bear jacket from winter wear can easily transition to a vintage denim jacket.
4. Swap your footwear for open styles.
Easily make your go-to outfits feel warmer by exchanging everyday ankle booties for strapped sandals or woven slip-ons.
5. Take your hems to ankle length.
Letting a little extra skin show says you’re ready for summer! Kick crops are my favorite fit for springtime since they pair perfectly with spring footwear. I own these jeans in both a medium blue wash and black wash.
